I wrote these scripts because I was sick of having to muck through adjusting the sound settings to listen to a CD or use my Geoport Telecom Adapter. They use the QuicKeys OSA Component of AppleScript included in Apple's Plaintalk Speech Recognition software to change the sound control panel settings properly. They require the AppleScript and QuicKeys OSA Component extensions, as well as the Pop-Up Menu and Wait... extensions to QuicKeys. There are versions for use on both AV Macintoshes (660AV/840AV) and the Power Macintosh (just a minor difference in the sound output rate). The best way to get the proper AppleScript extensions is to install Plaintalk 1.3 (the disk images are available at ftp.support.apple.com).
Once installed, the scripts must be modified using Apple's Script Editor in order to function properly on your computer. The path name on the first line of the script must be changed from "SDF-1:..." to "<your startup disk name>:...", syntax checked, and saved. The scripts are compiled as standalone applications so that once customized they do not require the script editor. I am working on a way to customize them during installation, but I do not know when (or if! :) I will finish it.
The Sound Adjustment Scripts are copyright 1995 by Joshua S. Megerman, and released by Razer's Edge Software. They are distributed as Freeware, meaning that they can be distributed and used for free as long as the original package (scripts and documentation in its archive) is distributed unmodified. There is no warrantee on this software, nor any guarentee that they will work (if they don't, please tell me so I can figure out why and how to fix it!). Send all comments, questions and bug reports to me at megermjs@newton.physics.drexel.edu.
